Firstly, choose the audience you belong to (parents, pupils, staff or guest).
Then, find what you're looking for amongst the pop-up buttons.
If, when you hit the cloud containing the word 'Parents', nothing happens and not buttons appear below, then there is a problem with your internet browser.
This site uses something called Javascript and it is possible you may have this turned off. See a separate item lower down this page on how to turn it on.
While building this site, we've put a huge amount of time into planning how to make the (potentially) large amount of information manageable. A common criticism of the last design was that it was difficult to find things.
Our research led us to take a user-oriented approach, where different audiences are presented with navigation only relevant to them. So, for example, the children's navigation does not link to a list of policies, data-protection information, etc., but instead links to things they might need at school, such as online tools.
We've also added a search feature, which we hope everyone will find simple to use. Just click on the search cloud and when the search bar pops up, enter a few keywords and hit 'Go search!'
To get the best out of this site, you'll need Javascript turned on in your browser.
We are very, very interested in any problems you have using the site, so please let us know if you have any. Use the email address at the top of the page or tell one of the staff, ideally Mr Portman or Mr Odell.
Replace class notices link in Parents navigation with link to the calendar. [Done, but some staff would like Class Notices in the Parents navigation]
Add RSS feeds from the BBC to the home page. Suggestions include CBBC News, BBC Sport and BBC Weather.[Done]
Add link to the Help! page using a prominent link at the top of the page. [Done]
Add quick links to BBC feeds from the top of the home page.
Monitor use of Class Notices by staff and hits by visitors and consider whether to keep it [Some staff keen to keep it].
Consider removing the Games page and adding the content to the Links page.
Add custom 404 error page and page when no search results returned.
Consider adding Get Dropbox link to staff navigation.
While designing the site, a conscious decision was taken not to support some out-dated web browsers, particularly version 6 of Internet Explorer (usually referred to as IE6).
This was a well-informed, calculated decision which was not taken lightly. The result is that anyone visiting this site using IE6 will see a message advising them to upgrade their browser and they will experience difficulties with using the interactive navigation at the top of the site. The three mains reasons for not supporting IE6 were:
1. We would not be able to offer the user experience we deemed necessary to make the site as user-oriented as we wanted to if we supported IE6. [EDIT: It would be possible, but the extra effort and time required would not be insignificant.).
2. We are an educational institution and part of our remit is to educate safe, practical and effective use of the internet. It is in users interest to update their browsers regularly for the best possible user experience but the more important message is that using an out-dated browser is a security risk. Our aim is to encourage safe and responsible use of the internet, so by not supporting out-dated browsers we are encouraging this.
3. The number of users using IE6, although disproportionately high in the public sector (of which we are a part), is diminishing.
Ultimately, as a primary school intent on leading the development of effective ICT use with children's learning, we must set a good example, and by encouraging visitors to upgrade their browsers we are doing that.
Dropbox is a system used by the staff to share non-confidential documents, such as lesson plans, with each other. To download the software, or access your account through your browser, visit http://getdropbox.com.
